Photomap

Created for University of Toronto’s TAGlab, PhotoMap is the functional prototype for a wall-mounted social media display. Designed for use by seniors with memory problems, the interface is entirely passive, giving users updates on the activities of their loved ones through a series of simple light-up icons in conjunction with a small tablet display. By pulling media and location information from Instagram and Google Maps APIs, PhotoMap is able to locate loved ones and infer their current activities, allowing seniors to feel connected to the lives of their children even if they are far away.

I developed this project from scratch in Python and C. The scripts are run on a Windows tablet, while the lighting system runs is controlled by an Arduino Uno.
